Haggard & Hypocrisy
Ted Haggard was a Evangelical pastor who had strong opinions on some topics. He preached strongly against homosexuality and condemned homosexuals saying that it is a sin and that it is immoral. Even though he appeared to be a devout pastor and followed the Bible he was engaging in illegal activities. The first controversy in 2006 was when a former prostitute Mike Jones said that Haggard had paid him for sex and used meth. However in CNN Ted Haggard admitted his second relationship with a man and the use of methamphetamine.
During Haggard’s interviews he admitted his hypocritical actions he also gave excuses to somewhat justify what he had done. One of these excuses was during a CNN interview when Haggard explained , " I think he rescued me. I'm very gratreful to him." (Haggard ,7).By that statement Haggard is trying to develop pathos by trying to say that he was a victim. He claims that without Jones his life would have crumbled. Haggard is using red harring is this claim because he is only highliting the detail that he was in a hole and that Jones had saved him but not focusing on the fact that he commited adultery, hired a male prostitute, had a second relationship with a man, used illegal drugs, and overall hypocrisy. Another example where Haggard tries to say he was a victim of some sort was when he said " an idicator of the compulsive behavior that ruled him at the time"(Haggard ,2). Now Haggard is saying that he was a victim to his compulsive behavior and that it compeletly controlled him. Besides saying that he was a collapsed person he also tries to claim he under the control of his urges. He again tries to justify his actions and create pahtos by blaming other things and to make it seem like he was the victim.
Ted Haggard does not have a good ethos to me. I don’t think anything that he says or does is credible due to his hypocritical actions. Besides being hypocritical he used drugs and had affairs with two other men. Even though he admitted his actions it does not take the fact away that he committed them in the first place. Ted Haggard is not a trustworthy person because of the actions he engaged in.

  1. 1. Good job at remembering the MLA title always put it on each assignment!

    2. Nice creative title! Dont forget to capatilize the title. and the H.H is kind of weird for the reader if they dont corrilate that it means Haggards hypocrisy.

    3. You might want to add more detail to your body paragraphs, like what happend to his family and such. and DONT FORGET TO SPACE OUT EACH PARAGRAPH so the reader knows which is which is which.
    4. Your quote is almost cited correctly - don't forget the paragraph number the quote was found from! Your explanation was great because it described how the speaker admits to having a affair with a male prostitute.Your explanation was awesome it tells the reader everything they need to know what exactly happend.

    5. You were very clear about if this person is believable or not. I dont know if i will ever trust a word this guy says again because of your precise information.

    6. Remember to capitalize (i). This part of your first quote was spelled wrong: "rexcued me" It was located in your second paragraph the first quote.
